When public & commercial spaces work together
Mr. Punk Gardener & I visit the farmers market at The Triangle on Wednesadys when we can & some times we just drive down to the Triangle to have a different environment for our evening exercise walks.
The Triangle has a good mix of lots of little local shops & eateries with some chains (last night we tried Ched’s. If you think gourmet grilled cheese won’t sell in TX, think again, the place was packed. We stopped in Kick Butt Coffee afterward for live music & rejavanation).
One of the things I like about The Triangle is the fact that it’s laid out around a big grassy park that has a water feature/ play space for kids and shaded seating around the edges. It’s a good park for dogs with short kept grass & a doggie pick up station, and all the sidewalks in The Triangle run by outdoor cafes & lead to the park.
The area invites strolling, playing & hanging out on the grass.
& you know what that leads to?
Conversations with neighbors.
We’ve rarely been there that we didn’t meet new folks like the charming WW2 vet & his wife last night. He reminisced about Europe & scooters after asking us about our Vespa.
It was a very pleasant way to end our day, talking with two wonderful people and watching dogs play frisbe in the park.
Commercial space doesn’t have to be the enemy of good public space. In fact, the two can enhance each other nicely.
