The folks at http://www.removemystump.com did a great job for us, they also chased a skunk from our yard. 
While it’s a bit sad to see more of my yard become featureless, it’s nice to have less fire ant habitat near our home :p (& more space to plot & plan future garden endeavors. I really want to xeriscape with natives around the front when we get the screened in porch set up, but there are always more garden dreams than there is money ’round here hee)
When you see new sub divisions going in you can dig up a lot of different native plants before they scrape every vestige of plant life away. Oer 50% of my gardens are native and I’ve never bought a one. Also you might join your local native plant society as there is a lot of plant giving and swapping going on.
